LOBBY7 Realizes True Multimodality With Launch of x|mode 2.0
Showcases Multimodal Applications Powered by x|mode 2.0 at CTIA Wireless 2002
BOSTON, Mass. and ORLANDO, Fla. March 18, 2002 LOBBY7, Inc., a leader in multimodal technology, today announced the release of x|mode Network Server 2.0, the latest addition to the x|mode product suite. x|mode 2.0 features increased functionality, an expanded architecture for current and next-generation networks, a powerful authoring framework and support for Pocket PC 2002. LOBBY7 will be at CTIA Wireless 2002 with COMPAQ (booth #1803), Nuance (booth #927) and in the SpeechWorks "Wireless 2002" Solutions Suite at the Peabody Orlando Hotel, Orlando, FL. LOBBY7 will be demonstrating VoiceMap, a multimodal navigation application, and new application prototypes including Multimodal Field Force Automation and a Multimodal City Guide, all of which are powered by x|mode 2.0.
x|mode is currently in evaluation and prototype phases with international carriers, including Orange, one of the leading providers of wireless services worldwide. x|mode gives service providers the ability to easily develop and deploy true multimodal applications, combining voice, visual and audio interfaces on a single mobile device and a single session.
x|mode 2.0 architecture is fully IP-based and supports current and next-generation network infrastructures. Architected to support existing standards like VoiceXML and XHTML, and upcoming standards like SALT, x|mode offers a simple migration path from existing voice- and data-only applications into complete multimodality. A set of developer tools included with the x|mode suite accelerates time to market of new applications and multimodal-based services.
"Already deployed with a number customers and partners, x|mode 2.0 is a pivotal step forward in multimodal application deployment," said Mykolas Rambus, President of LOBBY7. "x|mode 2.0 is the multimodal solution for service providers interested in realizing the value of true multimodality, today."
Multimodal Applications
With x|mode, users will not only experience easy and natural interfaces to their favorite applications, but they will also enjoy innovative and fun applications that enable a new world of wireless lifestyles. Applications being demonstrated at CTIA Wireless 2002 include VoiceMap, a Multimodal City Guide, and Multimodal Field Force Automation.
In Multimodal Field Force Automation, for example, while a worker is inspecting equipment he can navigate application trees and issue voice commands using his voice instead of having to push buttons or touch the screen of the device dozens of times. He can say, "Part list," "Part number H023," and "Repair" while his hands are occupied inspecting the equipment. In response to his voice inputs, the worker will easily see lists and tasks, and hear instructions and directions read to him while he is working. Through multimodal form filling and application tree navigation, field force workers can save several minutes every hour, resulting in more time for customers and reduced operational costs for their company.
Using VoiceMap, a user will simply say, "Show me how to get to Disney World." As he sees the words from his voice command appear on the screen, he can change or add to the information either by touching or speaking. Receiving directions is equally easy and efficient. He can receive audio directions read to him one step at a time, a map displaying the route to his destination, a list of directions that he can read at his leisure or a combination of these results. The user will not only receive the information he needs, but he will also experience an easy and fun way of getting it.
